Children of Blood and Bone: Book Cover Fan Art

We were tasked with illustrating either a book cover, sleeve, or full page accompanied with spot illustrations. I decided to take a stab at recreating Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone.

Having read the book, I found it exciting to try my hand at illustrating the characters in a way that I’ve imagined them while reading. Although it’s marketed as a Fantasy title, I thought that there were a lot of Action elements within the story as well. This gave me the opportunity to approach the cover as if it was a Shonen manga or action series. This assignment was a lesson in spacing for me. I wanted to make sure the main character popped while also highlighting the secondary characters behind her. I love the way this one turned out.
